During the Spring Festival, the number of WeChat payments for travel, lifestyle entertainment increased by over 20% year-on-year. Cross-border tourism is booming, with Malaysia and Maldives seeing offline transaction amounts surge by 131% and 186% respectively compared to last year.
On February 23rd, WeChat released the 2026 Chinese New Year data report, showing that the "longest Chinese New Year holiday in history" ignited a consumption boom. During the Spring Festival, the number of WeChat payments for travel, lifestyle, and entertainment all increased by over 20% compared to the previous year. Cross-border tourism was booming, with offline transaction amounts in Malaysia and the Maldives increasing by 131% and 186% respectively compared to last year. In Malaysia, the transaction amount on mini-programs during the Spring Festival period increased by over 140% year-on-year. Overseas inbound tourists maintained a high-speed growth in offline transaction numbers by binding international bank cards to WeChat, with the daily average number of inbound tourists accessing mini-programs increasing by more than twice compared to the previous period. WeChat Pay now supports 29 overseas wallets in 12 countries and regions, with transaction numbers during this year's Spring Festival increasing by over 28% compared to last year. During the Spring Festival, over 600 million red packets with cover photos were sent, and over 9.21 million pieces of Spring Festival-related content were published on Video Accounts. Guangdong is known as the "most likely to give red packets" province in the country.
