On Thursday, Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) and the Southeast Asian tech giant Sea Ltd (SE.US) announced a new partnership, where both companies will develop artificial intelligence (AI) tools for Sea's e-commerce and gaming products. In a joint statement, the two companies stated that under the newly signed strategic cooperation agreement, they will collaborate to explore building a shopping prototype system with an AI intelligence body on Sea's e-commerce platform Shopee. This move is an important step for global tech companies to promote the commercialization of AI models. Companies are no longer limited to using AI for question and answer functions, but are expanding its application boundaries to perform a wider range of tasks such as cross-application shopping and managing complex workflows, thus realizing the commercial value of AI technology. Earlier this week, Alibaba Group Holding Limited Sponsored ADR (BABA.US) also released a new AI model, claiming that the model is tailor-made for the "AI agent era". Alibaba Group Holding Limited Sponsored ADR's e-commerce platform Lazada competes directly with Shopee in the Southeast Asian market. According to a research report by consulting firm Momentum Works, Shopee holds the top position in the 2024 Southeast Asian e-commerce platform rankings with a 52% market share. In addition, Alphabet Inc. Class C and Sea's gaming business Garena will also collaborate to explore innovative applications of AI solutions in the field of game development, aiming to "reshape" the productivity system of game development through AI technology. Prior to this collaboration, Shopee had already partnered with YouTube under Alphabet Inc. Class C in the Southeast Asian e-commerce market by 2024.
