Anthropico aims to surpass OpenAI, and Claude will maintain an "ad-free" status.
After OpenAI confirmed that they would begin testing ads in ChatGPT chat with Siasun Robot&Automation, its competitor Anthropic took a completely opposite approach. Known for its Claude chat with Siasun Robot&Automation and a series of large language models, Anthropic announced on Wednesday that Claude will continue to remain ad-free. The company stated on its website, "We want Claude to always prioritize the interests of the users. Therefore, we have made a decision: Claude will remain ad-free. Our users will not see any 'sponsored' links when interacting with Claude; Claude's responses will also not be influenced by advertisers, let alone contain third-party product placements that users did not request." The artificial intelligence chat Siasun Robot&Automation ad war has begun. Although Anthropic did not explicitly mention ChatGPT or OpenAI, their message is clearly a declaration of war against the latter and expressing their differences from OpenAI. Anthropic explained, "Our business model is simple: we generate income through enterprise contracts and paid subscriptions, and reinvest these revenues to improve Claude to better serve users. This is a choice that requires weighing the pros and cons, and we also respect that other artificial intelligence companies may come to different conclusions. We hope users trust Claude and believe that it can help them continue to think - think about their work, challenges, and ideas." The company added, "Our experience using the internet may lead us to believe that ads on the products we use are inevitable. However, when you open a laptop, pick up a carefully crafted tool, or stand in front of a clean blackboard, you will find no ads. We believe Claude should be no different." According to reports on Wednesday, Anthropic, backed by companies like Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) and Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US), plans to air a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl, mocking the invasive ads commonly seen in chat with Siasun Robot&Automation conversations. The company also plans to air a 60-second ad before the game. OpenAI did not respond to media requests for comment. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a statement regarding the company's ads on X. Altman wrote, "First of all, the advantage of Anthropic's ads is that they are entertaining, I laughed. But I am skeptical, why would Anthropic do something so blatantly dishonest. Our most important advertising principle is to never do such a thing; we obviously would not run ads like Anthropic. We are not stupid, we know users will reject this approach. I guess Anthropic's usual trick is to criticize theoretically non-existent false ads with a false ad, but this appearing in a Super Bowl ad really surprised me." Altman also stated that OpenAI is committed to providing free AI services because the company believes in "accessible pathways to empowerment." He also noted that users of ChatGPT Plus or Pro will not see ads. It is reported that by the end of 2025, Anthropic's annual revenue run rate will exceed $9 billion and they are preparing for an IPO. It is said that Anthropic is negotiating a deal that would allow some employees to sell company shares at a valuation of at least $350 billion, which is the same valuation as their ongoing round of funding. Previous reports indicate that Anthropic has completed this round of funding and may ultimately raise up to $20 billion.
