Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Rosalie Lam, said in her speech at the opening ceremony of the tourism fair that Hong Kong received nearly 50 million visitors last year, an increase of 12% compared to 2024. Of these, 38 million were from mainland China, an 11% increase from the previous year, and 12.1 million were non-mainland visitors, with a 15% increase. She described the performance as very good. Lam mentioned that after the official launch of the third runway system at the airport, the number of flights last year had recovered to 81% compared to 2018-2019, and it is expected to increase to 86% by 2026. This not only means more tourists visiting Hong Kong, but also more flight options for citizens, making it easier to purchase tickets. She hoped that ticket prices could remain stable. Lam also pointed out that global travel trends are rapidly changing, with travelers demanding deeper and more unique experiences. Both Hong Kong's attractions and the tourism industry need to embrace innovation and continuously improve service quality when planning itineraries for citizens or tourists, in order to attract customers who may not necessarily travel independently, but prefer using travel agents or joining tour groups. With the Lunar New Year approaching, Lam mentioned that Hong Kong will host a number of large-scale and exciting events, including the Chinese New Year Parade on the first day of the new year, fireworks on the second day, and a Lunar New Year horseracing event on the third day. She sincerely welcomed visitors from all over to experience the charm of Hong Kong's cultural exchanges and New Year celebrations.
