In 2025, 18 new urban rail transit operating lines will be added for the whole year, with 32 new operating sections and a total of 764.7 kilometers of new operating mileage.
On January 20, the Ministry of Transport announced that by December 31, 2025, 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps will have a total of 343 urban rail transit lines in operation, with a total operating distance of 11,710.3 kilometers and 6,680 stations. In the whole year of 2025, 18 new urban rail transit operating lines were added, with 32 new operating sections and an additional operating distance of 764.7 kilometers. In 2025, a total of 44.31 million train trips were actually operated throughout the year, with a total of 33.24 billion passenger trips completed, 19.80 billion passenger arrivals, and a total passenger turnover of 278.08 billion passenger-kilometers. The passenger volume in 2025 increased by 1 billion compared to 2024, representing a growth of 3.1%. Among them, 43 cities have opened and operated 282 subway and light rail lines, with a total operating distance of 10,142.3 kilometers, completing a total of 32.13 billion passenger trips and 19.02 billion passenger arrivals; 17 cities have opened and operated 26 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid rail lines, with a total operating distance of 1,011.3 kilometers, completing a total of 0.99 billion passenger trips and 0.66 billion passenger arrivals; 19 cities have opened and operated 35 tram and automated guided rail lines, with a total operating distance of 556.7 kilometers, completing a total of 1.2 billion passenger trips and 1.2 billion passenger arrivals.
