Renault is advancing related plans to help the defense industry in France by contributing to the development of the French drone industry.
French car manufacturer Renault is committed to advancing a plan to assist the national defense sector. Currently, as Europe seeks to address the threats posed by the United States over the Greenland issue, the political situation at GEO Group Inc is becoming increasingly tense. In a statement released in an email on Monday evening, the company stated, "In contact with the French armed forces, the Renault Group has been invited to contribute its expertise to the development of the French drone industry." The car manufacturer, which produces popular models such as the Renault 5 (R5) and the Scenic, will collaborate with the French aerospace and defense contractor Turgis Gaillard, with the unmanned drone project supervised by the French Ministry of Defense. Despite uncertainties in the French budget, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an increase in military spending last week to address the growing global threats. Macron announced on January 15 that the requested funds would provide an additional 360 billion (US$420 billion) by 2030 for the "transformation of the scale" of the French military. According to reports in the French media earlier today, Renault will assign its factories in Cleon and Le Mans to participate in the project. Renault stated that it is currently unable to specify which French factories will be involved in the drone project as consultations with labor unions must be carried out first.
