On January 19, the Hong Kong Tourism Board announced that the preliminary number of visitors to Hong Kong in 2025 was 49.9 million, a year-on-year increase of 12%. In 2025, there were a total of 37.8 million mainland Chinese visitors to Hong Kong, an increase of around 11% compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 76% of total visitors. There were approximately 12.1 million non-mainland visitors, a 15% increase compared to the previous year, accounting for 24% of total visitors. The most significant growth came from Chinese Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, and the Middle Eastern region, with growth rates exceeding 25%; the short-haul markets such as the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and India also recovered to or surpassed pre-pandemic levels. Additionally, the average length of stay for overnight visitors to Hong Kong in the past year was 3.1 nights; according to a survey by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, overnight visitors had a satisfaction rating of 8.9 out of 10.
