The statistics released by the Hong Kong Companies Registry show that the total number of new locally registered companies and registered companies that relocated in 2025 is 195,343.
On January 16, the Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Companies Registry released data showing that the total number of new locally registered companies and transferred-in companies in 2025 was 195,343. By the end of 2025, the total number of locally registered companies and transferred-in companies under the Companies Ordinance reached 1,557,103, an increase of 96,609 from 2024, reaching a record high.
In 2025, a total of 1,532 non-Hong Kong companies established new business locations in Hong Kong and registered under the Companies Ordinance. By the end of 2025, the total number of registered non-Hong Kong companies reached 15,586, an increase of 3% from 2024.
Since the implementation of the company transfer-in system on May 23, 2025, the market response has been positive. By the end of 2025, the Companies Registry received over 420 inquiries and 30 applications, out of which six non-Hong Kong entities (including an insurance company) established in Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands, or Bermuda have successfully transferred-in to Hong Kong. The transfer-in system provides a simple and cost-effective way for non-Hong Kong companies to avoid complex and expensive legal procedures while maintaining their legal identity and transferring to Hong Kong. This system ensures continuous business operations and enhances Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international business and financial center.
The number of property mortgages delivered for registration in 2025 totaled 12,912, a 6.4% increase from 12,137 in 2024; while the number of notices of payment and release of property mortgages delivered for registration increased by 14.2%, from 18,201 in 2024 to 20,789 in 2025.
In 2025, a total of 180 prospectuses for companies going public were registered, compared to 157 in 2024.
The total number of documents delivered for registration in 2025 was 3,360,723, a 7% increase from 3,139,906 in 2024.
In terms of electronic search services, the number of public queries on document image records in 2025 totaled 5,229,202, a 0.7% increase from 5,194,865 in 2024.
As for the registration of limited partnership funds, the total number of newly registered limited partnership funds in 2025 was 389. By the end of 2025, the total number of limited partnership funds was 1,347, an increase of 35.1% from the end of 2024.
In terms of open-ended investment company registration, the number of newly established open-ended investment companies in 2025 was 210. By the end of 2025, the total number of open-ended investment companies was 676, a 43.2% increase from the end of 2024.
In 2025, a total of 760 new licenses were issued to trust or company service providers under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance. By the end of 2025, the total number of licensed holders of such licenses was 7,220.
As for moneylender licenses, the Licensing Court issued 155 new licenses in 2025. By the end of 2025, the total number of licensed moneylenders was 2,015.
