Ministry of Commerce: Properly resolving the electric car case between China and Europe has important positive significance.
He Yunqian said that under the current international situation, it is of great significance for China and Europe to resolve the electric car case within the framework of the World Trade Organization rules with a mutual respect attitude.
On January 15th, the Ministry of Commerce held its regular press conference, and the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, He Yongqian, answered questions regarding the electric car case between China and the EU. He stated that on January 12, 2026, China and the EU simultaneously announced a positive outcome after multiple rounds of negotiations on the electric car case, attracting high attention from various sectors both domestically and internationally. The industry in China and the EU "highly welcomed and fully agreed" with this development, believing that the "soft landing" of the electric car case will significantly boost market confidence and inject new momentum into China-EU automotive trade and investment cooperation. Some EU politicians have evaluated this as a positive step towards establishing sustainable China-EU trade relations, indicating that resolving trade disputes through partnerships remains feasible.
He Yongqian remarked that under the current international situation, it is of great significance for China and the EU to properly resolve the electric car case within the framework of WTO rules in a spirit of mutual respect. This not only benefits the healthy development of China-EU economic and trade relations and safeguards the stability of the global automotive industry supply chain but also sends a clear and strong signal to the world. China and the EU are willing to jointly uphold the rules-based international trade order and set a good example for countries to resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation, injecting more certainty and positive energy into promoting global economic development.
