Macao Statistics and Census Bureau: The average tourism price index is expected to increase by 1.71% year-on-year in 2025.
The tourism price index for the fourth quarter of 2025 increased by 4.95% compared to the same quarter in 2024, mainly due to rising prices of jewelry, hotel room rentals, and air tickets.
On January 9, the Statistics and Census Bureau of Macau reported that the average tourism price index in 2025 increased by 1.71% compared to the previous year, mainly due to the increase in jewelry prices and entertainment and leisure expenses, while the decrease in hotel room rents partially offset the overall increase. By category, the prices for miscellaneous items (such as jewelry, watches, and handicrafts) and entertainment and cultural activities rose by 13.46% and 8.20% respectively, while accommodation (-2.88%) and pharmaceuticals and personal care products (-1.93%) experienced a decrease.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the tourism price index increased by 4.95% compared to the same quarter in 2024, primarily driven by the increase in jewelry prices, hotel room rents, and airfare prices. Within the major price categories, the prices for miscellaneous items, accommodation, and transportation and communication rose by 17.33%, 7.33%, and 6.05% respectively.
Compared to the third quarter of 2025, the tourism price index in the fourth quarter increased by 9.30%, with hotel room rents increasing during the National Day holiday and major racing events, leading to a significant 34.86% rise in the accommodation price index for the quarter. Additionally, miscellaneous items, transportation and communication, and apparel prices also saw increases of 7.77%, 4.86%, and 4.37% respectively.
