The new era of AI healthcare is starting: OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health feature which provides interpretation of medical examination results, as well as dietary and exercise guidance.
The new feature called ChatGPT Health released by OpenAI on Wednesday aims to provide useful health and fitness information, but will not make formal diagnoses.
OpenAI has introduced a new feature in its Siasun Robot & AutomationChatGPT chat, which will allow users to analyze medical check-up results, prepare for medical visits, and seek guidance on diet and exercise plans. This marks the company's biggest advancement in the healthcare field to date. The new feature, called ChatGPT Health, released on Wednesday, aims to provide useful health and fitness information, but will not make formal diagnoses. OpenAI states that this new feature can connect users' electronic health records, wearable devices, and health-related applications such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. In the initial stages, OpenAI will allow users to sign up for a waiting list to try out the product. The company plans to open up access more widely in the coming weeks.
An increasing number of tech companies are targeting the lucrative healthcare market, betting that advances in artificial intelligence can help analyze patterns in users' health data to provide personalized medical advice. However, these initiatives have also raised concerns about the privacy and security risks of AI services handling sensitive personal data and providing recommendations for higher-risk health issues.
OpenAI states that over 200 million people are already asking ChatGPT health and wellness-related questions every week. The company states that in the past two years, they have consulted with over 260 doctors to improve the health features of their AI technology. Additionally, the company plans to isolate health conversations from other parts of the application and increase enhanced privacy features.
The OpenAI team emphasizes that the service is meant to complement, not replace, a doctor's judgment. Fei Ji Simo, CEO of the OpenAI applications department, stated on Wednesday, "Doctors do not have enough time and energy. They cannot spend a lot of time understanding everything about you or explaining the situation in a way that you can understand. Meanwhile, when you look at artificial intelligence, it is not bound by these limitations."
