According to data from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Immigration Department, more than 1.18 million people entered and exited Hong Kong through various land, sea, and air control points on January 1st.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Immigration Department data shows that on January 1st, more than 1.18 million people entered and exited Hong Kong through various sea, land, and air control points. Among them, over 664,000 people entered Hong Kong, including around 408,000 Hong Kong residents and about 215,000 mainland Chinese tourists; around 516,000 people exited, including over 215,000 mainland Chinese tourists and about 251,000 Hong Kong residents. On New Year's Day, Luohu Control Point, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, and Shenzhen Bay Control Point were the busiest, with around 234,000, 200,000, and 170,000 people entering and exiting. The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority held a New Year's countdown concert for the first time. The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority stated that on December 31, 2025, 110,000 people visited the West Kowloon Art Park, with around 26,000 participating in the New Year's countdown. The "Yau Ma Tei Police Station Light and Shadow Tour" exhibition, planned by the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and located in the old Yau Ma Tei Police Station, officially opened to the public on January 2nd. Mr. Yang, a tourist from Guangzhou, said that the exhibition recreated classic scenes and offered interactive experiences, allowing people to get up close to movie-quality props, transform into characters for photos, and overall had a very novel experience. To accommodate the New Year's countdown activities, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have extended border gate services during the New Year period. On January 1st, Luohu Port's passenger clearance service was extended until 2 a.m., and Shenzhen Bay Port's passenger and vehicle clearance services are now operating 24 hours. The Transport Department of the Special Administrative Region Government has supervised local and cross-border public transport operators to strengthen services to meet the holiday passenger flow demands. From January 1st to 4th, shuttle buses and cross-border bus services have been strengthened, with local dedicated bus B-line services connecting various land border crossings increased to levels higher than regular weekends; MTR trains have also increased services on the East Rail Line between Admiralty to Luohu/Lok Ma Chau, making it easier for residents and tourists to travel.
