On December 30, the Hong Kong government announced that the validity period of the electricity subsidy and electricity relief plans (2024-25) for unused subsidies/relief funds will be extended for one year until December 31, 2026.
A government spokesperson stated that as there are still many citizens who have not fully utilized the electricity subsidies/relief funds they received, the government has decided to extend the validity period of the unused balance by one year. All unused balances will be carried over to subsequent months to pay for electricity bills shown on the same account until December 31, 2026, or when the account is closed (whichever is earlier). The government will review the situation in the future to determine if another extension is necessary.
