Advertising industry welcomes heavyweight challenger? OpenAI is considering implanting ads in ChatGPT.
According to reports, OpenAI appears to be pushing to implant advertising in ChatGPT.
According to reports, OpenAI appears to be moving forward with embedding advertisements in ChatGPT. Sources familiar with the matter have stated that internal discussions among OpenAI employees have been held on how to adjust certain artificial intelligence models to prioritize sponsored content in ChatGPT replies. Additionally, an individual who has seen the advertising model has informed the news media that discussions also include models for displaying various advertisements within the application.
Another source informed the media that the company may also be developing a new type of digital advertising. Currently, the digital advertising market is dominated by Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US), Meta Platforms (META.US), and Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US), with these three companies collectively holding over 50% of market share.
A spokesperson for OpenAI stated, "As ChatGPT's capabilities expand and its applications broaden, we are exploring how to continue providing smarter services for everyone. As part of this, we are researching advertising formats within our products. Users have built trust in ChatGPT, and any design solutions will respect this trust."
Fidji Simo, the CEO of OpenAI's applications division, has been looking for a person to lead ChatGPT's profitability efforts, including the introduction of advertising features. It has been reported that Simo met with several potential candidates in September, including some of her former colleagues from Facebook, who will form a new team responsible for ChatGPT's advertising business.
OpenAI's CFO, Sarah Friar, previously stated to the media that the company is exploring adding advertisements to its products.
Venturing into the advertising field is expected to further boost OpenAI's revenue, which is crucial as the company appears to be gearing up for a new round of significant fundraising, potentially raising $100 billion from investors. In November, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that the revenue from developers of ChatGPT currently exceeds $13 billion and predicted that revenue could reach $100 billion by 2027. OpenAI's current revenue streams include selling subscriptions to consumers and businesses for ChatGPT, as well as providing access to its application programming interface (API) and other tools.
