The Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau stated that the first batch of three buildings in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park located in the northern metropolis area of Hong Kong has been completed.
The Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau stated that the first batch of three buildings in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park in the northern part of the metropolis has been completed. Two of the wet laboratory buildings have attracted more than 60 overseas, mainland, and local enterprises or institutions to move in, along with shared facilities such as a biological sample repository and data center for tenants to use, with an occupancy rate of nearly 80%. The remaining five buildings will be completed starting from 2027. The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Science and Technology Park held its opening ceremony today, attended by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, the Deputy Director of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, Xu Qifang, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, and Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Alfred Sit. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Science and Technology Park, stated that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, composed of the Hong Kong park and the Shenzhen park, is an important cooperation platform under the 14th Five-Year Plan of the country. The goal of the Greater Bay Area is to become a world-class innovation platform, leveraging the advantages of the different social systems, economies, and judicial systems across the border, with a focus on technological innovation. He mentioned that the first batch of three buildings has been completed, with two wet laboratory buildings attracting more than 60 overseas, mainland, and local enterprises or institutions to move in, with an occupancy rate of nearly 80%. The remaining five buildings will be completed from 2027 onwards. The second phase of the Hong Kong park has been completed, aiming to accelerate development by bringing together efficient market mechanisms and public-private partnerships. The total area provided by the two phases of the Hong Kong park will reach 20 million square meters, a 70% increase from the original plan, with functional science and technology blocks covering life and health sciences, artificial intelligence, data science, etc., promoting orderly industrial development and creating a complete innovation and technology industry chain. John Lee Ka-chiu also announced the official launch of the Western River Crossing Bridge project, which will connect the two parks of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The project will enhance the transportation network of the Greater Bay Area, effectively promoting cross-border movement of personnel and leveraging the advantages of innovative policies in the management of Shenzhen-Hong Kong ports. He stated that the construction and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Park will continue, including optimizing institutional connections, deepening policy support, actively attracting high-quality enterprises and world-class research teams. He is confident that the Greater Bay Area will become a key hub and demonstration site for the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.
