Building an intelligent, green and efficient transportation infrastructure network plays an important role in improving the quality of life for citizens, promoting social and economic development, and further enhancing Hong Kong's overall competitiveness.
On December 21, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government published a blog post stating that the construction of intelligent, green, and efficient transportation infrastructure network plays an important role in continuously improving the quality of life of citizens, promoting social and economic development, and further enhancing Hong Kong's overall competitiveness. The related construction will help strengthen the economic integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and is an important component of actively aligning with the national development strategy. It is reported that the Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section) was officially opened on the 21st. In the future, vehicles traveling between Yau Ma Tei and Kai Tak can choose this direct route, with travel time during busy periods expected to be reduced from 30 minutes to about 5 minutes. Paul Chan Mo-po also stated that starting from the first working day on the 22nd, 8 bus routes will be using the Central Kowloon Route. For citizens who commute between different districts daily, the total round trip time can be saved by about 50 minutes. With the completion of the other section of the route, the "Kowloon Bay section," next year, the entire new route will form part of Route 6 along with the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel. At that time, the travel time from Tseung Kwan O to Yau Ma Tei will be reduced from the current 65 minutes to about 12 minutes. Paul Chan Mo-po said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will continue to adhere to the policy of "Infrastructure first" and "Creating capacity", accelerate the implementation of a series of projects such as railways, trunk roads, and intelligent green collective transport systems as outlined in the "Hong Kong Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint".
