In November, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 4.39 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.3% year-on-year. From January to November, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 45.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.0%, with the cumulative growth rate faster than the same period last year by 0.5 percentage points.
On December 19th, according to the Ministry of Commerce, the head of the Consumer Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce discussed the situation of China's consumer market in November 2025. In November, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 4.39 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.3% year-on-year. From January to November, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 45.6 trillion yuan, a 4.0% increase, with cumulative growth faster than the same period last year by 0.5 percentage points. First, commodity consumption remained stable. In November, retail sales of goods increased by 1.0%. Sales of basic necessities grew steadily, with retail sales of grain and oil products and clothing and footwear above the quota increasing by 6.1% and 3.5% respectively. Sales of some upgraded goods grew rapidly, with retail sales of gold, silver, jewelry, and cosmetics increasing by 8.5% and 6.1% respectively. Categories related to trade-in programs grew rapidly, with retail sales of communication equipment and cultural and office supplies increasing by 20.6% and 11.7% respectively. Second, service consumption grew rapidly. From January to November, service retail sales increased by 5.4%, accelerating by 0.1 percentage points compared to January-October and 1.3 percentage points faster than retail sales of goods during the same period. Cultural and leisure services and communication information services both maintained double-digit growth. In November, catering revenue increased by 3.2%, maintaining stable growth. Third, there is a strong demand for new types of consumption. From January to November, online retail sales grew by 9.1%, with physical goods online retail sales increasing by 5.7%. According to the Ministry of Commerce's big data, in November, sales of key monitored platforms such as sports cameras, intelligent Siasun Robot & Automation, and energy-efficient TVs all increased by over 20%. According to the data from the Automobile Distribution Association, the penetration rate of new energy passenger vehicles reached 59.3% in November. Fourth, rural consumption is faster than urban consumption. The county-level commercial system continues to improve, and the consumption potential in the grassroots market is accelerating. From January to November, retail sales of goods in rural areas increased by 4.4%, with growth faster than urban areas by 0.5 percentage points; in November, retail sales of goods in rural areas increased by 2.8%, with growth faster than urban areas by 1.8 percentage points.
