According to preliminary statistics, the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Hong Kong in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year, while the growth rate in the second quarter was 3.1%.
On December 18, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released the preliminary figures of the local gross domestic product (GDP) calculated by volume for the third quarter of 2025, divided by economic activity. According to the preliminary statistics, the overall local GDP of Hong Kong in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 3.1%.
In terms of the analysis of the composition of the service industry and comparison with the same period last year, the total value added of all service activities increased by 3.1% in the third quarter of 2025, while the increase in the second quarter was 3.4%.
The value added of import and export trade, wholesale, and retail trade increased by 5.1% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 6.1%.
The value added of accommodation and food services decreased by 1.3% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the decrease in the second quarter was 0.6%.
The value added of transportation, warehousing, postal and courier services increased by 2.3% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 5.5%.
The value added of information and communication services remained largely unchanged in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 0.4%.
The value added of financial and insurance services increased by 5.4% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, which was similar to the increase in the second quarter.
The value added of real estate, professional, and commercial services recorded an increase of 0.4% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the decrease in the second quarter was 0.7%.
The value added of public administration, social and personal services increased by 1.9% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 2.3%.
In other industries outside the service industry, the value added of local manufacturing increased by 5.4% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the second quarter was 0.9%.
The value added of electricity, gas, water supply, and waste management decreased by 0.9% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while it increased by 0.4% in the second quarter.
The value added of the construction industry, after a substantial decrease of 10.4% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, dropped by 7.0% in the third quarter.
