The oracle bone script clarifies a report about the progress of constructing a data center for its main client, OpenAI, and denies any delays in project delivery time.
Oracle Corporation (ORCL.US) clarified a report regarding the progress of building a data center for its major customer, OpenAI, denying any delays in the project delivery. Earlier reports had suggested that due to shortages in labor and materials, the related data center would be completed in 2028 instead of the originally planned 2027. Media reports on Friday cited sources as saying that Oracle Corporation's data center being built for OpenAI was facing issues with worker and material supply shortages, leading to delays in the delivery time. In response, a spokesperson for Oracle Corporation stated that the site selection and delivery schedule were closely coordinated and jointly confirmed with OpenAI after both parties signed the agreement. "There have been no delays at any of the sites required to fulfill the contractual obligations, and all milestones are progressing as planned." However, Oracle Corporation did not specify when the cloud computing infrastructure for OpenAI would be officially launched. As early as September of this year, OpenAI had disclosed that it had reached a five-year agreement worth over $30 billion with Oracle Corporation. Clay Magouyrk, one of Oracle Corporation's newly appointed Co-CEOs, also mentioned at an analyst conference in October that the company had a "good working relationship" with OpenAI. For Oracle Corporation, the collaboration with OpenAI represents a relatively new business for a company that has been around for 48 years. Historically, Oracle Corporation has mainly relied on database software and enterprise applications for growth. In recent years, its cloud infrastructure business has rapidly expanded, now accounting for over a quarter of the company's revenue, but still lags behind major cloud service providers such as Amazon.com, Inc., Microsoft Corporation, and Alphabet Inc. Class C in terms of scale. In order to meet future computing power demands, OpenAI is pursuing multiple collaborations. In September of this year, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with OpenAI to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA Corporation devices for the San Francisco-based AI company, with the first phase of the project expected to launch in the second half of 2026. The two parties said they looked forward to finalizing details of the next stage of strategic cooperation in the coming weeks, but no official announcement has been made so far. In a filing submitted in November, NVIDIA Corporation also hinted that it "cannot guarantee reaching a final agreement on the opportunities related to OpenAI." OpenAI has long relied on NVIDIA Corporation's GPUs to run products like ChatGPT, and has also been exploring the possibility of custom chips in collaboration with Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US). Broadcom Inc.'s CEO, Hock Tan, revealed a rough timeline for the collaboration with OpenAI during a quarterly earnings conference call on Thursday. The collaboration was announced in October of this year, and terms have been agreed upon by both parties. Hock Tan stated that the related projects are likely to focus on the period between 2027 and 2029, with a total scale of around 10 gigawatts. "This is an alignment with a highly respected and valuable customer OpenAI in terms of development direction, but we do not expect significant contributions until 2026."
