Horizon Quantum has deployed Singapore’s first commercially used quantum computer, becoming the world’s first pure-play quantum software company to own such hardware. The move strengthens its technological edge as it prepares to go public on Nasdaq and supports Singapore’s ambitions to become a regional quantum hub.

Singapore-based Horizon Quantum announced that its quantum computer is now fully operational, marking the first commercial deployment of such a system in the country. Founded in 2018 by quantum researcher Joe Fitzsimons, the startup integrated hardware from leading suppliers including Maybell Quantum, Quantum Machines and Rigetti Computing.

Fitzsimons said owning its own machine will help the company better understand the full technology stack and accelerate development of real-world quantum applications. Horizon Quantum focuses on building software tools and infrastructure that enable developers to harness quantum systems for practical workloads.

Quantum computers are designed to handle problems too large for classical machines, such as molecular simulations for drug discovery or large-scale financial risk modeling. Though the technology remains early-stage, global investment continues to rise as breakthroughs from Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM and others bring the field closer to commercial readiness. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently described quantum computing as nearing an “inflection point.”

The launch comes as Horizon Quantum moves toward a Nasdaq listing through a merger with SPAC dMY Squared Technology Group, valuing the startup at roughly 503 million dollars. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.

The milestone also reinforces Singapore’s position in the regional quantum race. The country committed 300 million Singapore dollars as part of its National Quantum Strategy to expand local quantum capabilities, including processor development. Horizon Quantum’s machine is now the second system operating in Singapore and the first available for commercial use.
