On November 26, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the economic operation of the communication industry before 2025 for the first 10 months. In the first 10 months, the overall operation of the communication industry remained stable. The volume of telecommunications business maintained growth, the construction of new infrastructure proceeded orderly, and the user scale of 5G, gigabit, and Internet of Things continued to expand, with the mobile internet access traffic maintaining rapid growth. By the end of October, the total number of 5G base stations reached 4.758 million, with a net increase of 507,000 from the end of last year, accounting for 37% of the total number of mobile base stations, an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous three quarters. The revenue of telecommunications business maintained steady growth, new infrastructure construction progressed in an orderly manner, the user scale of 5G, gigabit, Internet of Things continued to expand, and mobile internet access traffic maintained rapid growth. I. Overall operation Revenue of telecommunications business grew steadily. In the first 10 months, the cumulative revenue of telecommunications business reached 1.467 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%. Calculated at constant prices from the previous year, the total volume of telecommunications business grew by 9%. Development of telecommunications users The scale of gigabit users continued to expand. By the end of October, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 697 million households, a net increase of 27.01 million from the end of last year. Among them, there were 663 million users with access speeds of 100 Mbps or above, accounting for 95.1% of the total number of users; 238 million users with access speeds of 1,000 Mbps or above, a net increase of 31.13 million from the end of last year, accounting for 34.1% of the total number of users, an increase of 3.3 percentage points from the end of the previous year. The scale of mobile phone users remained stable with growth, and the number of 5G users continued to increase. By the end of October, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies and China Broadcasting reached 1.83 billion, a net increase of 401.5 million from the end of last year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 1.184 billion, a net increase of 170 million from the end of last year, accounting for 64.7% of mobile phone users. Figure 2 5G mobile phone users situation The growth of mobile Internet of Things terminal users was rapid, and the number of Internet television (IPTV, OTT) users steadily increased. By the end of October, the three basic telecommunications companies had developed 2.89 billion mobile Internet of Things terminal users, a net increase of 234 million from the end of last year. The number of Internet television users (IPTV, OTT) reached 412 million households, a net increase of 4.737 million from the end of last year. III. Use of telecommunications services Mobile internet traffic continued to grow rapidly, and the DOU value reached a new high in October. In the first 10 months, the cumulative mobile internet traffic reached 323.2 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%. By the end of October, the number of mobile internet users reached 1.617 billion households, a net increase of 464.2 million from the end of last year. The average monthly mobile internet access traffic per household (DOU) reached 22.21 GB, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%, 2.51 GB higher than the end of the previous year. Phone call volume continued to decline, while mobile messaging service revenue slightly decreased. In the first 10 months, mobile phone call minutes completed 1.7 trillion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%; fixed-line phone outgoing call minutes completed 56.04 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 14.1%. In the first 10 months, the national mobile messaging service volume increased by 18.8% year-on-year; mobile messaging service revenue decreased by 1.2% year-on-year. IV. Communication capacity Gigabit network access capacity continued to increase. By the end of October, the total number of internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.243 billion, a net increase of 40.89 million from the end of last year. Among them, the fiber optic access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1.202 billion, a net increase of 42.13 million from the end of last year, accounting for 96.7% of internet broadband access ports. By the end of October, the number of 10G PON ports with gigabit network service capability reached 31.18 million, a net increase of 2.977 million from the end of last year. The construction of 5G networks progressed in an orderly manner. By the end of October, the total number of 5G base stations reached 4.758 million, a net increase of 507,000 from the end of last year, accounting for 37% of the total number of mobile base stations, an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous three quarters. V. Regional development The development of gigabit and 5G users in various regions is fast. By the end of October, the penetration rates of 1,000 Mbps and above fixed broadband access users in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions were 34.1%, 33.5%, 36.2%, and 27.8%, respectively, an increase of 2.9, 2.3, 4.5, and 4.2 percentage points from the end of the previous year; the penetration rates of 5G mobile phone users in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions were 64.3%, 65.4%, 64.6%, and 65.3%, respectively, an increase of 7.6, 8.2, 8.3, and 9 percentage points from the end of the previous year. The growth rates of mobile internet access traffic in different regions remained at double-digit levels. In the first 10 months, mobile internet access traffic in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions reached 135.7 billion GB, 76.1 billion GB, 92.1 billion GB, and 19.34 billion GB, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 17.3%, 16.1%, 15.2%, and 25.1%.
