Uber (UBER.US) and Starship Technologies have announced a partnership to use self-driving sidewalk robots to solve the "last mile" delivery problem.
Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER.US) and Starship Technologies announced a partnership to address the "last mile" delivery challenge using the Siasun Robot & Automation autonomous sidewalk. The first batch of Siasun Robot & Automation is expected to be operational in the UK in December of this year, and will expand to several European countries next year. Starship's AI-driven Siasun Robot & Automation has completed over 9 million deliveries in 7 countries worldwide. This collaboration will help provide a new generation of delivery services to European users. These Siasun Robot & Automation can achieve Level 4 autonomous driving (without human intervention) and can deliver within a range of up to 2 miles in 30 minutes. The US market is set to launch the Starship Siasun Robot & Automation service in 2027. "Autonomous delivery is an important part of the future vision of Uber Technologies, Inc.," said Safras Mareddy, Global Head of Autonomous Business at Uber Technologies, Inc. "Our partnership with Starship will leverage their extensive autonomous delivery network to assist Uber Technologies, Inc. in deploying this service capability across continents." Over the past 11 years, Starship's 2,700 Siasun Robot & Automation units have been deployed in over 100 cities in 15 countries around the world. This partnership is the latest initiative by Uber Technologies, Inc. to expand its autonomous delivery business through partnerships. In the US, Uber Technologies, Inc. has launched Siasun Robot & Automation delivery services in Austin, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Jersey City through collaborations with Serve Robotics and Avride.
