The Hong Kong government has reappointed Leung Fung-yee as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission for a two-year term.
On November 14, the Hong Kong government announced that the Chief Executive has reappointed Leung Fung-yee as the Chief Executive of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in accordance with the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Chapter 571). Her term will be two years, from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027.
On November 14th, the Hong Kong government announced that the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, in accordance with the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Chapter 571), has re-appointed Ms. Leung Fung-yee as the Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong for a term of two years, from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027.
Regarding this appointment, the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Paul Chan Mo-po, stated that Ms. Leung Fung-yee has led the SFC to fulfill its dual mission of prudent regulation and market development impartially, efficiently, and prudently during her tenure, demonstrating outstanding performance. Under her leadership, the SFC has maintained good communication with the market, the Hong Kong SAR government, as well as regulatory authorities and stakeholders both domestically and overseas, actively promoting market reforms, deepening connectivity between the Mainland and Hong Kong capital markets, and expanding connections with overseas markets, consolidating Hong Kong's market advantages and enhancing its competitiveness.
Furthermore, the SFC has actively promoted the development of emerging areas such as asset and wealth management, fixed income and currency markets, and digital assets, contributing to the innovation and high-quality development of Hong Kong's financial services. Paul Chan Mo-po firmly believes that Ms. Leung Fung-yee will continue to lead the SFC actively, making greater contributions to consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong's status as an international financial center.
It is reported that Ms. Leung Fung-yee joined the SFC in March 2015 and has served as an Executive Director of the Investment Products Department and Intermediaries Division, as well as Deputy Chief Executive between March 2018 and December 2022. She has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the SFC since January 2023. Prior to joining the SFC, Ms. Leung Fung-yee worked at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority from 1994 to 2008, and served as Deputy Secretary (Financial Services) of the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau from August 2008 to December 2013.
