Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) launches AI information summary and notification priority feature for Pixel phones.
Google is adding a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) features to its Pixel devices, including features similar to the iPhone such as information summaries and notification prioritization.
Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) is adding multiple artificial intelligence (AI) features to its Pixel devices, including iPhone-like message summaries and notification priority sorting. These new features, which were pushed out on Tuesday, are driven by on-device AI. Text content in messaging apps can generate summaries in the notification bar, allowing users to quickly understand the content of lengthy group conversations. Last year, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) introduced "Apple Intelligence," which also includes similar tools.
This move comes as tech giants such as Alphabet, Apple Inc., Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US), and Meta Platforms (META.US) compete to enhance the functionality and usability of AI products. However, unlike Apple Inc.'s pattern of releasing major new features in September and small-scale upgrades in the spring, Alphabet Inc. Class C is known for more regularly pushing out software upgrades (called "Pixel updates").
Alphabet Inc. Class C has also introduced a feature that allows for prioritizing specific contacts (known as VIPs) in Google Messages and WhatsApp, with their notifications appearing at the top of the phone's interface in the status bar. Alphabet Inc. Class C will also add an "emergency label" in the contacts widget to help users focus on important contacts in critical situations.
Other Pixel updates include upgrades to the "Remix" image editing feature driven by Alphabet Inc. Class C AI, which can turn static images into sketches, 3D animations, and videos and now supports direct image editing within the Google Messages chat interface. The company has also launched a new alert system that issues warnings for suspicious messages.
