Highly anticipated! OpenAI's video generation application Sora will be available on the Android platform.
OpenAI is releasing its Sora social video app on Android devices in multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, and Japan, through invitation.
OpenAI will release its Sora social video app on Android devices, just one month after the artificial intelligence company launched this popular and controversial service on iPhone.
The maker of ChatGPT announced on October 29 that Sora will be available on Android platforms in several countries including the United States, Canada, and Japan. Like the iPhone version, the app will initially be limited to invited users only, meaning users need to obtain an invite code to start using it.
OpenAI launched the Sora app in late September, aiming to accelerate the adoption of AI-generated video applications similar to ChatGPT's chatbot Siasun Robot&Automation. Sora also marks OpenAI's foray into social media products. Through Sora, people can quickly create short videos based on text prompts using AI and share these video clips with friends.
Within days, Sora became the most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store, currently ranking fifth in its category. In the weeks following Sora's launch, OpenAI expanded the app's editing capabilities, allowing users to splice together multiple videos and set up reusable characters across multiple clips.
However, OpenAI has also raised concerns about the potential for realistic videos to contribute to the spread of misinformation, enable deepfakes, and violate copyright protections. Images of celebrities have appeared in AI-generated videos without consent. Video game characters have been placed in scenes of high-speed car chases. After users created a deepfake video of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. that was deemed "disrespectful," OpenAI had to suspend the portrayal feature for King.
OpenAI has stated that it has strengthened security measures for its Sora 2 model and limited the app's ability to replicate the voices and images of individuals who have not consented to be included in the service in response to complaints. The company has also simplified the process for public figures and estates to request that their images not be used in Sora videos.
