ADNOC Deepens AI and Robotics Integration with Three-Part Gecko Robotics Deal
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has broadened its collaboration with Gecko Robotics, a technology company based in the United States, through the signing of three new partnership agreements. Announced on November 2 at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi, the agreements aim to speed up ADNOC’s adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics within its operations while also supporting the development of Emirati expertise in these fields.
The first deal is a long-term technology rollout signed between Gecko Robotics and AIQ, ADNOC’s joint venture with Presight. This agreement signifies AIQ’s entry into the robotics sector. As part of the plan, Gecko’s Cantilever operating system will be deployed at ADNOC Gas sites to streamline inspection and maintenance processes. The system uses robotic tools to capture real-time physical data, which is analyzed through AI platforms to predict maintenance needs. The program, which will run for three years, is expected to help ADNOC Gas cut inspection and maintenance costs by more than $300 million over five years.
The second framework agreement focuses on expanding the use of AI-based analytics and robotics across ADNOC’s full network of assets, covering both upstream and downstream facilities. In addition, the companies will study the potential for local production of Gecko’s robotic equipment in the UAE, aligning with ADNOC’s plans to advance domestic manufacturing and strengthen national technological capabilities.
The third agreement, signed with the ADNOC Technical Academy (ATA), centers on training and skill development. Under this partnership, ADNOC and Gecko will introduce specialized courses to prepare UAE Nationals for future roles involving robotics operations, digital maintenance, and data analytics. The initiative supports ADNOC’s long-term goal of creating a technically skilled energy workforce ready for digital transformation.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, ADNOC’s Managing Director and Group CEO, said the new partnerships mark further progress toward ADNOC’s vision of becoming the most AI-driven energy company worldwide. He noted that the adoption of AI and robotics will enhance operational efficiency, improve safety standards, and boost performance across ADNOC’s extensive portfolio.
Jake Loosararian, CEO of Gecko Robotics, highlighted the need for rapid digitalization in the energy industry. He explained that future leaders in the sector will be those who leverage robotics to collect critical physical data and apply AI to unlock greater human and machine potential.
These new partnerships align with ADNOC’s Energy AI strategy, which aims to increase productivity, enhance asset reliability, and cut downtime through automation, data analytics, and predictive maintenance. AIQ, ADNOC’s innovation subsidiary, continues to lead the development of AI-driven technologies that optimize production and asset management throughout the organization.
