On October 23rd, the State Post Bureau released the operation status of the postal industry in September 2025.
On October 23, the State Post Bureau announced the operating situation of the postal industry in September 2025. In September, the business revenue of the postal industry (excluding the direct operating revenue of postal savings banks) reached 152.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%. Among them, the revenue from express delivery services reached 127.37 billion yuan, up 7.2% year-on-year. In September, the postal industry handled a total of 18.34 billion items, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%. Among them, the volume of express delivery services reached 16.88 billion items, up 12.7% year-on-year. From January to September, the business revenue of the postal industry reached a total of 1.31363 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. Among them, the revenue from express delivery services reached 1.08574 trillion yuan, up 8.9% year-on-year. From January to September, the total volume of postal industry services reached 158.26 billion items, a year-on-year increase of 15.0%. Among them, the total volume of express delivery services reached 145.08 billion items, up 17.2% year-on-year. From January to September, the volume of express delivery services in the same city reached 11.87 billion items, up 4.3% year-on-year; the volume of express delivery services in different cities reached 130.17 billion items, up 18.6% year-on-year; the volume of international/Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan express delivery services reached 3.04 billion items, up 13.7% year-on-year. From January to September, the total volume of postal letters reached 490 million items, a decrease of 33.0% year-on-year; the total volume of parcels reached 21.081 million items, a decrease of 0.6% year-on-year; the total number of newspapers reached 12.21 billion copies, a decrease of 3.5% year-on-year; the total number of magazines reached 450 million copies, a decrease of 6.2% year-on-year; and the total number of remittances reached 1.475 million transactions, a decrease of 30.6% year-on-year. From January to September, the volumes of express delivery services in the same city, different cities, and international/Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan accounted for 8.2%, 89.7%, and 2.1% of the total express delivery services respectively. Compared with the same period last year, the proportion of express delivery services in the same city decreased by 1.0 percentage point, the proportion of express delivery services in different cities increased by 1.1 percentage points, and the proportion of international/Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan services decreased by 0.1 percentage point. From January to September, the proportions of express delivery service revenue in the eastern, central, and western regions were 73.8%, 15.6%, and 10.6% respectively, while the proportions of express delivery service volume were 71.1%, 19.6%, and 9.3% respectively. Compared with the same period last year, the proportion of express delivery service revenue in the eastern region decreased by 0.9 percentage points, and the proportion of express delivery service volume decreased by 1.5 percentage points; the proportion of express delivery service revenue in the central region increased by 0.6 percentage points, and the proportion of express delivery service volume increased by 1.0 percentage point; the proportion of express delivery service revenue in the western region increased by 0.3 percentage points, and the proportion of express delivery service volume increased by 0.5 percentage points. From January to September, the concentration index CR8 of the express delivery and parcel service brands was 86.9, which remained relatively stable compared to January to August.
