More than just a ventilator, BMC Remit is committed to the overall management of respiratory health.
On October 22nd, BMC Medical, a leading Chinese company in the field of respiratory health, shared its strategic path and achievements in core technology breakthroughs, global market expansion, and the construction of the respiratory health ecosystem at a media communication event. The event fully displayed how this globally second largest and number one in China producer of home respiratory machines is continuously leading the industry development through solid technological accumulation and forward-looking industrial layout. Driving technological development through independent innovation, BMC Medical has established global competitiveness. As the only Chinese company among the top five in global sales of home respiratory machines, BMC Medical has been deeply involved in the field of home respiratory health since its establishment in 2001 until its listing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2022. The company provides products and services for users with respiratory issues such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and obstructive sleep apnea. Strong technological capabilities have served as the "passport" for BMC Medical to enter the global market. In 2012, BMC Medical became the first Chinese brand of home respiratory machines to receive FDA certification in the United States. As of June 30, 2025, the company has obtained 932 authorized patents both domestically and internationally, with over 20 products certified by the FDA and successfully integrated into the medical insurance systems of multiple countries such as the United States, Germany, Italy, and Turkey. BMC Medical's home respiratory machines have been exported to over 100 countries and regions worldwide, with cumulative sales exceeding 3 million units domestically and internationally as of January 31, 2025, and over 10 million ventilation masks sold. "In the early days of our entrepreneurship, the home respiratory machine market was monopolized by international companies, and China's related industrial chain was almost non-existent, with core technology and components being controlled by others. Chinese brands faced challenges in stepping forward, and users had to purchase foreign products at high prices," Zhou Mingzhao, Executive Vice President of BMC Medical, stated during the event. Faced with this situation, BMC Medical chose the most difficult but most solid path: forward-looking research and development, breaking through from the bottom-up in terms of technology. Reflecting on BMC Medical's development over more than 20 years, a clear theme has persistently run through the company's dedication and relentless investment in independent research and development of core technology. Starting with the fan, dubbed the "heart of the respiratory machine," the company, in collaboration with supply chain partners, achieved domestic production of core components, and continues to iterate. Today, its fans' speed, stability, and noise control are on par with international top-tier levels. This was not just a technological breakthrough from 0 to 1, but also the beginning of BMC Medical driving the upstream supply chain of domestic home respiratory machines towards evolutionary cooperation. More critically, BMC Medical has established a comprehensive technological system covering hardware, intelligent algorithms, human-machine interaction, and cloud platform services. Its independently developed intelligent respiratory algorithm can accurately identify over ten complex respiratory events, including obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea, and achieve precise pressure adjustment in milliseconds. A report from the authoritative French testing agency KerNel shows that BMC Medical's intelligent respiratory algorithm has surpassed international top brands in core indicators such as "accurate recognition of obstructive hypoventilation," reaching a world-leading level. During its expansion overseas, BMC Medical faced a "337 investigation" initiated by international giants. With a complete system of independent intellectual property and solid technological evidence, the company, after nearly four years of litigation, ultimately reached a global settlement with the other party, successfully defending its right to enter European and American markets. "This victory not only recognizes our technological strength, but also instills confidence in Chinese medical device companies venturing overseas," Zhou Mingzhao stated. Standards are the "common language" and "competitive rules" of the industry, and BMC Medical's deeper impact on the industry lies in its contribution to industry standards. With 7 international standardization experts, BMC Medical has participated in the formulation of a total of 38 released international and domestic standards, covering almost all industry standards for products sold domestically. This push towards higher standards drives industry upgrades, ensures quality improvements from core components to complete machine manufacturing, and gives Chinese-made respiratory health products a stronger voice in the global market. Technological empowerment of ecosystems, from respiratory machines to comprehensive health management scenarios Building upon its solid foundation of core technology, BMC Medical is systematically expanding its capabilities to broader respiratory health fields, pushing its business evolution from "single equipment" to "comprehensive solution for all scenarios." "Building the 'preferred platform for global respiratory health management,' we aim to transform the technology, products, and service capabilities we have accumulated over the years in the respiratory field into solutions that better satisfy user needs, allowing more families to enjoy the convenience of respiratory health management and driving the industry towards a more mature and universal direction," Chairman Zhuang Zhi outlined the company's development vision at the event. Based on the hardware, algorithm, and data capabilities accumulated in the field of home respiratory machines, BMC Medical is replicating and extending these capabilities to related fields such as oxygen concentrators and nebulizers. Among these, intelligent mobile oxygen therapy represents a typical example of technological expansion. BMC Medical innovatively introduced the "smart on-demand oxygen supply" technology, ensuring stable and comfortable oxygen concentration and flow rates in various exercise and environmental conditions through precise sensor technology and intelligent control, fully showcasing BMC Medical's strong interdisciplinary empowerment capability through its integrated "hard and soft" technology system. At the event, CMO Chen Xiao introduced BMC Medical's systematic proposal for the "smart mobile oxygen supply combination solution." This solution includes products such as smart oxygen cylinders, smart lightweight oxygen respirators, smart oxygen backpacks, and smart oxygen tanks, forming a multi-device interlinked ecosystem. This approach covers a full range of scenarios from "emergency short-term" to "prolonged oxygen therapy," from "urban commuting" to "outdoor exploration," systematically reshaping the user experience of mobile oxygen therapy. It demonstrates BMC Medical's deep understanding of user needs in the respiratory health field over the years, as well as its capability in integrating technology and defining products. Behind this ecosystem layout is the support of digital services. As early as 2015, BMC Medical pioneered the establishment of a respiratory health management cloud platform in China, connecting users, devices, medical institutions, and family members, enabling remote monitoring and intervention for chronic respiratory diseases and upgrading single respiratory devices into integrated solutions for diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention, effectively reducing the long-term management costs for users. Professor Cao Zhixin, Director of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, also emphasized the importance of "integrated diagnosis, treatment, and management" from a clinical perspective at the event. "It accurately captures the core of modern medicine, moving from 'treating illnesses' to 'managing health,' seamlessly integrating professional respiratory support into patients' daily lives through intelligent devices and data platforms. This not only significantly improves treatment adherence and quality of life but also provides clinical physicians with a continuous and reliable management tool, truly building an efficient and humanized new paradigm for respiratory health management." Only by fully leveraging the advantages of "medical-engineering integration" can local medical practices be combined with research and development to create products and services more suitable for Chinese needs and address the most pressing demands at the clinical forefront. This can only be achieved through the joint efforts of leading domestic companies and high-quality medical resources in the country. Professor Cao Zhixin concluded, "The ultimate goal of respiratory therapy is to help patients return to a high-quality social life. BMC Medical's product layout, evolving from single equipment based on respiratory physiology principles to comprehensive solutions covering hospitals, homes, outdoor settings, etc., showcases its scientific and pioneering nature."
