On October 20th, the National Bureau of Statistics announced that in September, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 4.1971 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.0% year-on-year. Excluding automobiles, the retail sales of consumer goods were 3.726 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.2%. From January to September, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 36.5877 trillion yuan, up by 4.5%. Excluding automobiles, the retail sales of consumer goods during this period were 32.9954 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.9%.
In September, urban retail sales of consumer goods reached 3.5783 trillion yuan, up by 2.9% year-on-year, while rural retail sales of consumer goods were 618.8 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0%. From January to September, urban retail sales of consumer goods totaled 31.6838 trillion yuan, up by 4.4%, while rural retail sales of consumer goods were 4.9039 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.6%.
In terms of consumption type, in September, retail sales of goods were 3.7462 trillion yuan, up by 3.3% year-on-year, while catering revenue was 450.9 billion yuan, an increase of 0.9%. From January to September, retail sales of goods were 32.4888 trillion yuan, up by 4.6%, and catering revenue was 4.0989 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.3%.
In terms of retail formats, from January to September, the retail sales of convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores, and branded specialty stores increased by 6.4%, 4.4%, 0.9%, 4.8%, and 1.5% respectively among retail enterprises above the designated size.
From January to September, the national online retail sales reached 11.283 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods were 9.1528 trillion yuan, up by 6.5%, accounting for 25.0% of the total retail sales of consumer goods; within the online sales of physical goods, food, clothing, and daily necessities saw increases of 15.1%, 2.8%, and 5.7% respectively.
