In September 2025, the national resident consumer prices fell by 0.3% year-on-year.
On October 15th, the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in September 2025, the national consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.3% year-on-year. Within this, prices in urban areas dropped by 0.2%, while rural areas saw a decrease of 0.5%. Food prices fell by 4.4%, while non-food prices rose by 0.7%. Consumer goods prices decreased by 0.8%, while service prices increased by 0.6%.
On average from January to September, the national consumer price index decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period last year. In September, the national consumer price index rose by 0.1% month-on-month. In this month, urban prices remained stable, rural prices increased by 0.2%, food prices rose by 0.7%, non-food prices decreased by 0.1%, consumer goods prices rose by 0.3%, and service prices decreased by 0.3%.
In terms of year-on-year changes in various categories of goods and services in September, prices for food, tobacco, and alcohol decreased by 2.6%, leading to a decrease of approximately 0.74 percentage points in the CPI. Within food, vegetable prices fell by 13.7%, egg prices by 11.9%, meat prices by 8.4% (including a 17.0% decrease in pork prices), fruit prices by 4.2%, and grain prices by 0.7%. Prices for aquatic products increased by 0.9%.
Elsewhere, prices in seven other categories saw increases ranging from 0.1% to 9.9%, with transportation and communication prices experiencing a 2.0% decrease.
In terms of month-on-month changes in various categories of goods and services in September, prices for food, tobacco, and alcohol rose by 0.5%, leading to a 0.13 percentage point increase in the CPI. Within food, vegetable prices rose by 6.1%, egg prices by 2.7%, fruit prices by 1.7%, and pork prices by 0.7%, while aquatic product prices decreased by 1.8%.
In other categories, prices saw varying changes, with some increasing and some decreasing. Other goods and services, clothing, household goods and services, medical care, education, culture, entertainment, and living prices saw changes ranging from -0.9% to 1.3%.
