Ford Motor Company (F.US) has suspended production of several vehicle models, including the profitable Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.
A sudden three-alarm fire in upstate New York has caused the Novelis factory to shut down, directly impacting the aluminum supply chain for American cars - this factory supplies about 40% of the aluminum used in cars in the United States. As a result, Ford Motor Company (F.US) has halted production of several models, including the profitable Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUV. According to officials from the United Auto Workers union and internal company memos, the production line for three-row seat SUVs at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant has stopped due to the interruption in aluminum supply, and the factory in Kentucky that produces the Super Duty trucks may also face a shortage risk in the future. To prioritize core business operations, Ford is focusing resources on maintaining production of the F-series pickup trucks, while adjusting operations on other production lines: production of the F-150 Lightning model at the Dearborn, Michigan factory has been halted, and shifts for producing the Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUVs at the Louisville factory have been reduced to single shifts.
