The current trend index of business revenue for small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong in September has risen to 43.8, indicating a further improvement in the business environment.
The current trend index of small and medium-sized enterprises' business revenue increased from 42.3 in August 2025 to 43.8 in September 2025, while the business revenue outlook index for the future month (October 2025) is 47.2.
On October 13, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong government released the results of the monthly survey on the business conditions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for September 2025. The current trend index for business revenue of SMEs increased from 42.3 in August 2025 in the contraction zone to 43.8 in September 2025, while the outlook index for business revenue for the next month (October 2025) was 47.2.
By industry analysis, although the current trend index for business revenue is below the dividing line of 50, the relevant indices for all industries covered in the survey in September 2025 have risen compared to the previous month, especially for the real estate industry (from 43.9 to 47.1), retail industry (from 41.1 to 42.8), and logistics industry (from 40.5 to 42.2).
The current trend index for new orders in the import and export trade industry increased from 44.2 in August 2025 to 46.5 in September 2025, while the outlook index for new orders for the next month (October 2025) was 47.3.
A spokesperson for the Hong Kong government stated that the business atmosphere for SMEs in September had improved, along with expectations for the next month. Overall employment situation remains stable.
Looking ahead, despite ongoing uncertainties in the external environment, the resilient local economy of Hong Kong, coupled with continued growth in other parts of Asia, particularly in mainland China, will provide support for the local business atmosphere in Hong Kong.
