In September, the passenger volume decreased by 190 million compared to the previous month, a decrease of 6.6%, while an increase of 110 million compared to the same period last year, an increase of 4.3%.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport, by September 2025, a total of 54 cities in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had opened and operated 333 urban rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 11,330.5 kilometers. The actual number of trains operated reached 3.64 million, serving 2.69 billion passengers and handling 1.6 billion entries. In September, the passenger volume decreased by 190 million compared to the previous month, a decrease of 6.6%, but increased by 110 million compared to the same period last year, showing a growth of 4.3%. The average passenger traffic intensity per kilometer per day for the total operating mileage in September was 0.799 million passengers, a decrease of 3.9% compared to the previous month and 3.3% compared to the same period last year. Among them, 43 cities had opened and operated 274 subway and light rail lines, with a total operating mileage of 9,839.3 kilometers, serving 2.6 billion passengers and handling 1.54 billion entries. 16 cities opened and operated 25 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 970.7 kilometers, serving 775.7 million passengers and handling 522.1 million entries. 18 cities had opened and operated 34 tram and automated guided rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 520.5 kilometers, serving 96.2 million passengers and handling 90.8 million entries. This month, an additional operating mileage of 119.8 kilometers was added, including the opening of two new lines: the first phase of the Tianjin Metro Line 7 and the first phase of the Xuzhou Metro Line 6.
