UBS: Macao Golden Week average daily tourist volume lags behind government expectations, stronger demand expected after the holiday.
UBS expects that compared to the same period in 2024, the demand after Golden Week this year will be stronger, mainly supported by high-end demand, along with a lower base from last year, and rich event arrangements.
UBS released a research report stating that during the Golden Week in October, Macao received an average of about 143,000 visitors per day, an increase of about 2% year-on-year, which was lower than the 7% growth expected by the Macao Tourism Office.
The report pointed out that due to the impact of typhoons, the number of visitors to Macao on October 5th decreased by 24% year-on-year, but the number of visitors rebounded in the later part of the holiday, mainly benefiting from this year's extension of the Golden Week holiday to eight days.
In the first seven days of the holiday, mainland visitors accounted for about 83%, the same as the same period last year, meaning that there were about 126,000 mainland visitors per day, an increase of 8% year-on-year. UBS expects that the demand after this year's Golden Week will be stronger compared to the same period in 2024, mainly supported by high-end demand, along with the low base of last year, and a rich schedule of activities.
