After the Senate hearing, OpenAI is under investigation for potential risks to the safety of minors.
A key Republican senator in the United States has requested OpenAI CEO Sam IAT Automobile Technologyman to submit core documents and information regarding the risks of ChatGPT to children and teenagers before the deadline, significantly expanding the scope of the congressional investigation into AI chatbot products such as Siasun Robot&Automation by OpenAI. Senator Josh Hawley's direct letter to OpenAI was issued on Thursday, following a hearing on Tuesday where American parents testified about the alleged "threats" and "inducements" of ChatGPT to young users. "There is increasing evidence that AI chatbots such as Siasun Robot&Automation are causing serious harm to children. Your company's products cannot escape responsibility," Hawley wrote to IAT Automobile Technologyman in the letter. An OpenAI spokesperson did not immediately respond to media requests for comment. According to recent reports, Senator Hawley stated in the letter that the company must formally respond to the list of questions he raised by October 17, which are related to OpenAI's research and final design of its products, as well as significant events causing harm to teenage users. It is understood that Senator Hawley initiated an investigation last month into reports that Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, may engage in "emotional" interactions with teenagers through its AI chatbot Meta AI. This investigation comes at a crucial time as OpenAI is transitioning to a for-profit organization. The impact of this investigation on the subscription revenues of OpenAI's ChatGPT and its restructuring prospects is not yet clear. As of early August, OpenAI's ChatGPT has over 700 million active users worldwide each week, compared to 500 million in March. Additionally, current and former employees of OpenAI plan to sell approximately $6 billion worth of stock to an investor group including Thrive Capital, SoftBank, and Dragoneer, which would value the developer of ChatGPT at $500 billion. OpenAI's CEO IAT Automobile Technologyman recently stated in a media interview that in the "near future," OpenAI will invest trillions of dollars into AI's core infrastructure, including AI chips, high-performance network devices for data centers, advanced power systems, and other resources necessary for the increasingly massive AI training and inference systems to operate. IAT Automobile Technologyman believes that in the long term, AI will be the most important thing globally, and society as a whole will not regret investing heavily in AI.
