At the 2025 Connect Conference held on Wednesday, Meta officially launched the new Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses, which are mainly aimed at sports enthusiasts who engage in activities such as running and cycling. These glasses have a retail price of $499 and will be officially released on October 21. It is understood that Meta Connect is the flagship conference of this social networking giant, and has always been a platform for the debut of smart glasses and VR headsets. Unlike the earlier Oakley Meta HSTN model of Meta smart glasses which placed dual cameras at the top corner of the frame, the new design features an integrated large front lens that supports shooting videos with a resolution of up to 3K, and is equipped with a 1200-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide angle. The Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses feature programmable buttons, allowing users to customize AI commands through the Meta AI app. Meta emphasizes that all buttons are placed below the temple arms to ensure comfortable operation even when athletes are wearing helmets. In terms of battery life, the Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses can be used for up to 9 hours on a single charge, with 6 hours of continuous music playback. The accompanying charging case can provide an additional 36 hours of battery life, and supports emergency charging to 50% capacity in 20 minutes. In terms of audio performance, these glasses use an open speaker design, with a sound volume 6dB higher than the Oakley Meta HSTN, making it the strongest audio product among Meta's smart glasses. Additionally, the glasses are equipped with a five-microphone array to effectively reduce wind noise interference during calls, messaging, or when using the Meta AI voice assistant. In terms of protection, these glasses meet IP67 dust and water resistance standards, making them the most protective smart glasses under Meta, suitable for high-intensity training. The frame adopts a wraparound design, integrating Oakley PRIZM lens technology to effectively block sunlight and sand. In sports scenarios, these glasses also support integration with Garmin Ltd. smartwatches - users can directly query real-time data such as heart rate and pace through the glasses while running or cycling. Additionally, it can be deeply integrated with the sports social platform Strava - sports metrics can be overlaid in a visual form on videos and photos taken with the glasses, and shared directly to the Strava community. The Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses offer four frame and lens color combinations, with initial market launches in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Meta plans to launch these glasses in markets such as Mexico, India, Brazil, and the UAE later this year. It is worth noting that this launch comes just three months after Meta introduced the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses. At that time, Meta stated that the Oakley Meta HSTN was its "first product aimed at both athletes and sports enthusiasts". In addition to the new Oakley series products, Meta also unveiled two Ray-Ban brand smart glasses at the conference on Wednesday: one with a built-in display screen that supports applications, photos, and navigation information display, along with a wrist-worn bracelet for control; the other is the Ray-Ban Meta 2, which has double the battery life of its predecessor and supports shooting 3K ultra-high-definition videos.
