Compared with July 2024, the overall export and import volumes of goods in Hong Kong in July 2025 increased by 12.6% and 14.3% respectively. Comparing the first seven months of 2025 with the same period in 2024, Hong Kong's overall export and import volumes of goods increased by 10.7% and 10.8% respectively.
Seasonally adjusted figures show that in the three months up to July 2025, the overall export and import volumes of goods increased by 1.3% and 3.0% respectively compared to the previous three months.
The change in external merchandise trade volume is calculated by deducting the impact of price changes from the change in external merchandise trade value.
Compared with July 2024, the overall export prices and import prices in July 2025 increased by 1.7% and 2.0% respectively. Comparing the first seven months of 2025 with the same period in 2024, the overall export prices and import prices both increased by 1.9%.
The price change in external merchandise trade is reflected in the change in the unit price index of external merchandise trade, which is calculated based on the actual prices of individual commodities or average unit values.
The trade price ratio index is calculated based on the ratio of the overall export price index to the import price index of goods. Compared with the same period in 2024, this index fell by 0.2% in July 2025, and by 0.1% in the first seven months of 2025.
Compared with July 2024, the overall export volumes to Taiwan Province of China (80.8%), Vietnam (39.0%), Mainland China (14.6%) and India (12.5%) all recorded increases. On the other hand, the overall export volume to the United States decreased by 4.9%.
At the same time, the overall export prices to Taiwan Province of China (4.3%), Mainland China (1.8%) and Vietnam (1.6%) increased. On the other hand, the overall export prices to the United States (-0.5%) and India (-0.8%) decreased.
Compared with July 2024, the import volumes from Vietnam (116.8%), Singapore (26.5%), Mainland China (16.1%) and Taiwan Province of China (3.0%) recorded increases in July 2025. On the other hand, the import volume from South Korea decreased by 5.2%.
At the same time, the import prices from all major supply sources increased: Taiwan Province of China (5.8%), South Korea (4.6%), Vietnam (3.6%), Singapore (2.4%) and Mainland China (0.4%).
