On the news front, recently, according to the official WeChat account of Contemporary Amperex Technology, the company's sodium-ion battery has passed the certification of the GB 38031-2025 "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles" (referred to as the "New National Standard"), becoming the world's first sodium-ion battery to pass the new national standard certification. The new national standard, which is set to be officially implemented on July 1, 2026, aims to eliminate the risk of electric vehicle spontaneous combustion at the source and imposes strict requirements on the safety of batteries in terms of thermal diffusion, bottom impact, fast charging cycles, and other dimensions. In third-party authoritative tests conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's New Energy Vehicle Testing Center, Contemporary Amperex Technology's sodium-ion battery demonstrated excellent safety performance at both the cell and battery pack levels, passing all tests successfully. Contemporary Amperex Technology Chairman and CEO Zeng Yuqun previously stated that sodium-ion technology is mature and has been mass-produced and supplied to vehicle manufacturers on a small scale. It is expected that initially, sodium-ion batteries will replace 30% of lithium iron phosphate batteries in small or short-range vehicles. Currently, the second generation of Contemporary Amperex Technology's sodium-ion batteries has been successfully used in vehicles from several brands such as Ideal, Avita, Deep Blue, Changan Qiyuan, and NIO. In addition, in the field of energy storage, sodium-ion batteries, with their non-flammable, non-explosive, environmentally friendly and high energy conversion rate properties, long cycle life, and potential cost advantages, are gradually being used more in energy storage station projects.
