The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced that the preliminary number of visitors to Hong Kong in August was 5.15 million, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year, reaching a new high for a single month after the outbreak of the epidemic. In the first 8 months of this year, there were approximately 33 million visitors to Hong Kong, an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. Of these, 25.53 million were visitors from mainland China, while 7.65 million were non-mainland visitors, with year-on-year growth rates of 11% and 16% respectively.
In the first 8 months, the number of visitors from short-haul source markets increased by 18% year-on-year, with China Taiwan Province, South Korea, and Japan performing well. The number of visitors from long-haul markets increased by 19%, with Australia showing the best performance.
