Trump will visit the UK this week, with focus on technology, nuclear energy cooperation, and steel tariffs.
The United States and the United Kingdom will announce a cooperation agreement in the fields of technology and civilian nuclear energy. At the same time, the UK hopes to finalize steel tariffs based on the framework of a trade agreement.
According to reports, US President Donald Trump will make his second state visit to the UK from September 16th to 18th, during which the US and UK will announce cooperation agreements in the fields of technology and civil nuclear energy. Meanwhile, the UK hopes to finalize steel tariffs based on a trade agreement framework.
During his visit with his wife Melania on Wednesday, Trump will enjoy grand celebrations of the British royal family, including carriage processions, state banquets, military aircraft flypasts, and gun salutes.
The UK government hopes the soft power of the royal family can attract Trump, as it seeks to establish closer defense, security, and energy cooperation with Washington.
Stamper hopes to reduce tariffs
UK Prime Minister Keir Stamper will host Trump at his Chequers estate on Thursday, where they will discuss closer cooperation on issues like Ukraine, with a focus on implementing matters related to reducing steel and aluminum tariffs.
A spokesperson for Stamper said the two leaders will sign a "world-leading technology cooperation agreement." The two countries will also sign agreements worth billions of dollars to develop small-scale nuclear projects that can provide power support to new artificial intelligence data centers in certain situations.
The spokesperson for Stamper told reporters, "The UK-US relationship is the strongest in the world. This week, we will push this relationship to achieve significant breakthroughs."
Stamper is the first international leader to reach an agreement with Trump on lowering tariffs.
Under the agreement, the US has indicated plans to lower import tariffs on cars, aluminum, and steel. While details of the automobile tariffs were agreed upon in June, the steel and aluminum tariff agreements have not been finalized.
UK Trade Minister Peter Kyle said on Sunday, "On the steel front, we will ensure a relevant statement is issued as soon as possible."
Several US companies announce investments in the UK
Ahead of Trump's arrival, the UK announced on Saturday that it will receive investments of over 1.25 billion pounds ($1.69 billion) from companies like PayPal, Bank of America Corp, among others. Insiders revealed that NVIDIA Corporation and OpenAI will also make investment announcements as part of the technology agreements.
US cloud computing provider CoreWeave also stated that they will announce investment plans in the UK this week.
A spokesperson for Stamper said a UK delegation will head to the US before Monday to finalize details of Trump's visit. This will be Trump's second visit to the UK in two months.
The spokesperson for Stamper also mentioned that during this week's visit, both sides will announce measures to deepen cultural ties, including promoting basketball in the UK and developing partnerships between heritage and arts institutions.
