In the second quarter of 2025, Hong Kong's industrial production index and industrial producer price index increased by 0.9% and 4.0% respectively compared to the same period last year.
On September 15, according to the preliminary results of a statistical survey published by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the overall industrial production index of the manufacturing industry increased by 0.9% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, following a 0.7% year-on-year rise in the first quarter of 2025.

The industrial production index for sewage treatment, waste management, and pollution control activities increased by 1.5% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, following a 1.8% year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2025. The corresponding producer price index also increased by 1.6% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, following a 1.3% year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2025.
The industrial production index reflects changes in local industrial production volume, excluding the impact of price changes. Price changes are measured by the producer price index, which is compiled based on producer price data for selected industrial products/services collected in the same statistical survey.
Regarding the main industries in the manufacturing sector, the industries that recorded increases in production volume compared to the same quarter of the previous year in the second quarter of 2025 were the food, beverage, and tobacco products industry (+2.0%), the paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media industry (+1.5%), and the metal, computer, electronic and optical products, and machinery and equipment industry (+0.2%). On the other hand, the textile and clothing industry recorded a decrease (-5.7%).
After seasonal adjustment, the industrial production index of the overall manufacturing industry in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 0.3% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
The producer price index reflects changes in local production prices, measuring the changes in the actual prices charged by producers for their output (excluding any discounts or commissions refunded by the buyer and adding any additional charges), but excluding transportation costs and other miscellaneous fees.
In the second quarter of 2025, all major industries in the manufacturing sector recorded an increase in producer prices compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The largest increase in producer prices was in the metal, computer, electronic and optical products, and machinery and equipment industry (+7.2%), followed by the textile and clothing industry (+2.1%), the paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media industry (+1.1%), and the food, beverage, and tobacco products industry (+0.7%).
