According to sources familiar with the matter, Meta is planning to launch its first consumer smart glasses, which will officially debut at the Meta annual Connect conference next month.
According to informed sources, Meta (META.US) plans to launch its first consumer smart glasses, which will be equipped with a display screen and can be controlled through gestures using a wristband. Sources say that this device will be officially unveiled at Meta's annual Connect conference next month, which focuses mainly on the areas of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and the metaverse. The smart glasses, codenamed "Hypernova", will have a small digital display embedded in the right lens. The color display will provide a field of view of about 20 degrees, mainly for displaying notifications such as messages. The glasses are reportedly priced at around $800, and the accompanying wristband uses surface electromyography (sEMG) sensor technology to detect and interpret electrical signals generated by hand movements. The new product will be sold through Meta's partnership with EssilorLuxottica (ESLOY.US). Although the specific brand has not been confirmed, it has been reported that the two companies had planned to launch a collaboration with PRADA (01913) for the smart glasses. The bulky frame structure of PRADA glasses is ideal for accommodating the hardware of Hypernova. According to a letter from the US Customs and Border Protection to Meta's representative lawyer on July 23, the device will support users to "take photos and videos in multiple formats, make video calls, send and receive messages, play audio, and interact with AI assistants, including through voice, display screen, and manual operation, among other interaction methods". The letter is part of the regular process to determine the origin of the product, and sources confirm that it describes the Hypernova product.
