Foxconn confirms collaboration with SoftBank to advance the "Stargate" project: cooperation in producing data center equipment in Ohio.
Foxconn and SoftBank will produce data center equipment for the "Gateway to the Stars" project in Ohio.
Foxconn announced on Monday that the company plans to collaborate with SoftBank to produce data center equipment at its former electric vehicle factory in Ohio, USA as part of the "Stargate" project aimed at advancing artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States. Foxconn Chairman Liu Youngwei stated that SoftBank has acquired the factory in Lordstown, Ohio, and Foxconn will continue to operate the factory through a joint venture established by both parties.
Earlier this month, Foxconn announced that it had reached an agreement to sell the factory and its equipment for $375 million, but did not disclose the identity of the buyer.
The "Stargate" project is a joint venture formed by SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle Corporation. The project was announced by President Trump in January of this year, with companies investing up to $500 billion.
Liu Youngwei added that SoftBank and Foxconn had been preparing for the project for over six months. He said, "We understand that for this project, the key factors to consider are power, space, and timing - we cannot delay too long. Taking all these factors into account, we believe Ohio is a very suitable location, and SoftBank views it the same way."
