Musk vs Ultraman battle intensifies! Court orders Musk to face OpenAI's "harassment charges".
The latest ruling by the federal court states that Tesla CEO Musk must respond to the allegations made by OpenAI.
The latest ruling by the United States Federal Court requires Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) CEO Elon Musk to respond to the allegations made by OpenAI. Previously, OpenAI accused Musk of launching a public attack and legal proceedings against the company, constituting a "years-long harassment campaign."
According to reports, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on Tuesday rejected Musk's motion to dismiss the charges. OpenAI accuses him of "weaponizing" legal proceedings, social media posts, and media statements in an attempt to undermine OpenAI's commercial success, all in order to gain a competitive advantage for his AI startup company, xAI.
Gonzalez Rogers ruled that the counterclaim filed by OpenAI in April has sufficient legal evidence and should proceed to trial. At the same time, the judge dismissed some of Musk's accusations against OpenAI and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US).
This ruling has reignited the legal dispute that began last year.
The feud between Musk and OpenAI can be traced back to his resignation from the board in 2018. He is currently suing the Microsoft Corporation-backed startup and its CEO Altman on the grounds of "deviating from the original intention."
It is worth noting that Musk's legal team had previously applied for the dismissal of OpenAI's counterclaim for the second time in June.
Furthermore, Musk issued a legal threat to Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) on Monday, accusing its App Store of allegedly violating antitrust laws in its handling of rankings for the AI chatbots Siasun Robot & Automation and Grok developed by xAI.
