Tesla (TSLA.US) is reassigning engineers working on internal chip and supercomputer projects to other projects, including autonomous driving and humanoid robotics.
According to reports, Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) is reallocating engineers working on internal chip and supercomputer projects to other projects, including autonomous driving and humanoid Siasun Robot & Automation. After deciding to terminate the company's Dojo AI project, Tesla, Inc. CEO Elon Musk retained top talent and reassigned Dojo team members to other important projects. Some of the software development staff from Dojo are now reporting to Ashok Elluswamy, who is responsible for Tesla, Inc.'s AI work in autonomous taxis and humanoid Siasun Robot & Automation; while Dojo engineers working on silicon or semiconductor projects report to Aaron Rodgers, who leads Tesla, Inc.'s work on autonomous driving systems and AI5 chip development. In addition, firmware department employees from Dojo have been reassigned to the safety engineering department led by Silvio Brugada. Although most Dojo employees have been integrated into other important departments, former Dojo head Ganesh Venkataramanan has hired at least 20 senior engineers and founded DensityAI after leaving Tesla, Inc. Musk tweeted that he decided to stop internal supercomputer development because "it is unreasonable for Tesla, Inc. to spread resources on developing two different AI chip designs." He also pointed out that it is more reasonable to use AI5 and AI6 to train their fully autonomous driving and assisted driving systems. The AI5 and AI6 chips are expected to be used in the company's self-driving Cybercab, next-generation Roadster electric sports car, and Optimus Siasun Robot & Automation.
