CATHAY PAC AIR (00293) announced that, according to the 2013 subscription agreement, CPAS has obtained the purchase rights for several additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft from the manufacturer.
As of the announcement date, CPAS has (a) exercised the purchase rights under the 2013 subscription agreement to purchase fourteen Boeing 777-9 aircraft; and (b) been granted the right by the manufacturer to purchase up to an additional seven Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
The basic price of the aircraft includes the airframe price, additional component prices, and engine prices. The basic price of the aircraft is approximately US $8.1 billion (equivalent to approximately HK $63.2 billion). The manufacturer has provided CPAS with a substantial price discount for the aircraft.
The cost of purchasing each aircraft must be paid in five installments in cash, with the first four installments for each aircraft to be paid before the aircraft is delivered, and the remaining installment, which represents a significant portion of the cost, to be paid upon delivery of the aircraft. The company expects the aircraft to be delivered by 2034 or earlier.
The announcement stated that the aircraft will facilitate future growth and gradually replace some of the company's existing long-haul wide-body aircraft fleet. These aircraft will mainly serve long-haul routes, as well as designated regional destinations. The company expects the new aircraft to contribute to sustainable development commitments through higher fuel efficiency, ensure value through operational cost benefits, and provide passengers with a high level of comfort and safety for a pleasant experience.
