In June, Macau's overall consumer price index increased by 0.25% year-on-year and by 0.04% month-on-month.
On July 24, data from the Statistics and Census Service of Macau showed that the Composite Consumer Price Index rose by 0.25% annually and 0.04% monthly in June 2025.
On July 24, data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau showed that the Composite Consumer Price Index in June 2025 increased by 0.25% compared to the previous year, and by 0.04% compared to the previous month. Over the twelve months up to June this year, the average Composite Consumer Price Index increased by 0.34% compared to the same period a year ago (from July 2023 to June 2024).
Compared to the same month last year, the price index of the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category increased by 0.20%, mainly driven by the increase in dining out and takeaway charges, as well as the rise in housing rents which led to a 0.18% increase in the Housing and Fuel category. The Leisure, Sports and Culture category recorded a more significant annual increase of 3.42%. On the other hand, the price indexes of the Information and Communication (-3.12%) and Clothing and Footwear (-2.26%) categories decreased. Class A and Class B Consumer Price Indexes increased by 0.19% and 0.30% respectively.
Compared to May, the Composite Consumer Price Index in June increased by 0.04%. The prices of women's summer clothing and gold jewelry increased, driving up the Clothing (+0.66%) and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (including personal care, insurance, jewelry, and watches, etc., +0.45%) categories. The price index of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+0.01%) category slightly increased, mainly due to the increase in dining out and takeaway charges, while the decrease in vegetable, fresh fish, and seafood prices mitigated part of the increase. On the other hand, the price indexes of Leisure, Sports and Culture (-0.58%) and Tobacco and Alcohol (-0.45%) categories decreased. Class A and Class B Consumer Price Indexes both increased by 0.04%.
Over the twelve months up to June this year, the average Composite Consumer Price Index increased by 0.34% compared to the same period a year ago. Among the price indexes of various categories, the largest increases were recorded in Miscellaneous Goods and Services (+2.37%), Education (+1.60%), and Medical Care (+1.29%), while the prices of Transport (-2.66%) and Information and Communication (-1.60%) decreased. The average Consumer Price Index for Class A and Class B increased by 0.31% and 0.36% respectively.
The average Composite Consumer Price Index for the second quarter increased by 0.22% compared to the previous year, with the average Consumer Price Index for Class A and Class B increasing by 0.17% and 0.27% respectively. Compared to the first quarter, the average Composite Consumer Price Index increased by 0.02%.
In the first half of this year, the average Composite Consumer Price Index increased by 0.19% compared to the previous year, with the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category rising by 0.49%. The average Consumer Price Index for Class A and Class B increased by 0.14% and 0.22% respectively.
