Trump Announces 35% Tariff on Canadian Goods, Plans 15–20% Tariff on Most Trade Partners
On July 10 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that a 35% tariff will be imposed on goods imported from Canada starting August 1. In a media interview, Trump further stated his intention to levy a unified tariff of 15% or 20% on the majority of America’s trading partners, noting that arrangements for this plan are currently underway.
According to multiple media sources, Trump also indicated that notification letters outlining the new tariff rates would be sent to the European Union and Canada within the next day. He stated, “We will send the letters out in the next few hours.”
In addition, Trump mentioned the Russia-Ukraine conflict and announced that he would deliver a significant statement regarding Russia on Monday. Earlier this week, Trump had issued tariff letters to countries including South Korea and Japan and confirmed that a 50% tariff on all imported copper would take effect beginning August 1.
