On June 25th, the Ministry of Finance released the national lottery sales situation for May 2025. In May, the national lottery sales totaled 570.36 billion yuan, an increase of 94.18 billion yuan compared to the same period last year, a growth of 19.8%. The main reasons for this growth were the increase in sales of sports betting-type lottery driven by the many sports events in May, and the lower sales base of instant lottery tickets compared to the same period last year. Of this total, welfare lottery institutions sold 185.29 billion yuan, an increase of 14.71 billion yuan, a growth of 8.6%; sports lottery institutions sold 385.07 billion yuan, an increase of 79.47 billion yuan, a growth of 26.0%. From January to May, the total national lottery sales reached 2,633.72 billion yuan, an increase of 108.31 billion yuan, a growth of 4.3% compared to the same period last year. Of this total, welfare lottery institutions sold 889.79 billion yuan, an increase of 19.60 billion yuan, a growth of 2.3%; sports lottery institutions sold 1,743.93 billion yuan, an increase of 88.71 billion yuan, a growth of 5.4%. Sales of different types of lotteries: In May, sales of numerical lotteries amounted to 162.12 billion yuan, an increase of 5.07 billion yuan, a growth of 3.2%; sales of sports betting-type lottery reached 257.52 billion yuan, an increase of 43.58 billion yuan, a growth of 20.4%; sales of instant lottery tickets were 113.41 billion yuan, an increase of 45.82 billion yuan, a growth of 67.8%; sales of Keno lottery was 37.30 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.30 billion yuan, a drop of 0.8%. In May, the sales volume of numerical lottery, sports betting-type lottery, instant lottery, and Keno lottery accounted for 28.4%, 45.2%, 19.9%, and 6.5% of the total lottery sales, respectively. Sales of video lottery was 0.0009 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.0002 billion yuan. From January to May, sales of numerical lottery amounted to 740.78 billion yuan, a decrease of 8.90 billion yuan, a drop of 1.2%; sales of sports betting-type lottery reached 1,159.34 billion yuan, an increase of 111.31 billion yuan, a growth of 10.6%; sales of instant lottery tickets were 567.84 billion yuan, an increase of 10.69 billion yuan, a growth of 1.9%; sales of Keno lottery was 165.76 billion yuan, a decrease of 4.78 billion yuan, a drop of 2.8%. From January to May, the sales volume of numerical lottery, sports betting-type lottery, instant lottery, and Keno lottery accounted for 28.1%, 44.0%, 21.6%, and 6.3% of the total lottery sales, respectively. Sales of video lottery was 0.0054 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.0005 billion yuan. Regional lottery sales: In May, compared to the same period last year, lottery sales in all 31 provinces in the country increased, with Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Henan seeing significant increases of 9.0 billion yuan, 9.0 billion yuan, 7.0 billion yuan, and 6.8 billion yuan, respectively. From January to May, compared to the same period last year, except for Xinjiang, Yunnan, and Jiangxi, lottery sales in 28 provinces nationwide increased. Among them, the provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Hubei saw significant increases of 11.8 billion yuan, 9.6 billion yuan, 9.2 billion yuan, and 8.3 billion yuan, respectively. Lottery institutions at all levels should closely track and analyze new situations and issues, effectively strengthen lottery issuance and sales work, and ensure the smooth operation of the market. Financial departments at all levels should further strengthen lottery supervision, actively create a good external environment, maintain market order, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the lottery industry.
