Indias demand for AI PC has exploded, with Lenovos PC and tablet market share skyrocketing.
The Indian PC market welcomed significant growth in 2025. According to the latest data from Canalys (now part of Omdia), PC shipments in India (excluding tablets) increased by 13% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 3.3 million units, with Lenovo showing remarkable competitiveness in this growth trend. Lenovo's performance, especially in the laptop market, stood out. In the first quarter of 2025, Lenovo's laptop shipments reached 626,000 units, with a year-on-year growth rate of 34.8%, far higher than the market average, and its market share increased to 18.8%. This achievement not only helped Lenovo stand out among numerous manufacturers but also highlighted its strong growth momentum in the Indian laptop market. In comparison, HP had a growth rate of only 4.6% during the same period, while Dell had 1.3%, making Lenovo's growth advantage very apparent. Although the overall tablet market in India declined by 24% year-on-year in the first quarter, Lenovo still managed to achieve growth against the trend. The data shows that Lenovo's tablet shipments in the first quarter of 2025 were 125,000 units, with a year-on-year growth of 16.1% and a market share of 12.1%. In a situation where brands like Samsung and Acer saw significant declines in shipments, Lenovo's performance was particularly commendable, showcasing its competitiveness and market recognition in the tablet market. Lenovo's outstanding performance in the Indian market is closely linked to its precise market strategy. With the popularity of AI PCs and the surge in demand from second and third-tier cities, Lenovo has actively expanded into related areas to seize market opportunities. On one hand, Lenovo has increased its investment in AI laptops to meet the demand for high-performance devices from businesses and consumers. Canalys data shows that AI laptop shipments in the first quarter of 2025 increased by an impressive 253%, and Lenovo's positioning in this sub-market undoubtedly boosted its growth. The report emphasizes that AI PCs will gradually transition from niche to mainstream, with more and more companies incorporating AI-enabled devices into their procurement strategies. Ashweej Aithal, Senior Analyst at Canalys (now part of Omdia), pointed out that 2025 is a key year for the Indian PC market, laying the foundation for the comprehensive advancement in AI applications, localized manufacturing, and value-oriented demand in 2026. Looking at the overall market outlook, the Indian PC market is expected to grow by 6% in 2025, with shipments exceeding 15 million units. Lenovo has demonstrated strong growth potential in various sub-segments such as the consumer market and commercial market. With the acceleration of replacement cycles, the deeper application of AI technology, and the advancement of localized manufacturing, Lenovo is expected to continue to maintain a leading position in the Indian market.
